CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 24: Autumn Leaves

This is my favorite time of year to take road trips. My most recent trip was to North Carolina to see the autumn foliage, with the purpose of capturing the scenery with my trusty camera. I think you’ll agree that Mother Nature produces some of her most glorious colors in the fall!

This collection includes ten high resolution images that you can process for web or for print….

lammug Meeting – October 20, 2011

We’re catching back up this October, meeting at Starbucks in Los Alamos on the 20th at 6pm.

I’ve got a few new books for you to look at, one about Photoshop with other tools and the other introducing photographic lighting. These two are great, but you’ll have to show up to check them out :)

Please look for lammug on Facebook and sign up there – I’ll post events there as the calendar on this blog is not working well at all.

Exporting Image Portfolios from Adobe Bridge to the iPad

Tablet devices are becoming more and more common in the professional, educational and consumer worlds. In fact, at MAX 2011 it was even mentioned that tablet devices will likely supersede desktop computers within the next few years. With increasingly powerful tablets coming into the market, tied in with cloud-based services, this forecast doesn’t surprise me.

The fact that Adobe announced at MAX 2011, the release of 6 new and or improved Touch apps, also sends a clear message that these devices are being taken seriously by the industry.

Whether you are a professional artist or photographer, or a student learning the craft, or just someone who wants to share their great photos with others on your shiny new tablet, this article may come in handy. We’re going to see how you can add image portfolios to your iPad, using Adobe Bridge CS5, the new Bridge Export panel, and iTunes. …

CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 21: Lighthouses

Throughout the years, lighthouses have been the subject of song, poetry, art and photography. I am a big lighthouse fan and while traveling, will never pass up an opportunity to take a side trip to one of these romantic structures by the sea.

This collection is based on the masterpiece poem The Lighthouse by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

The collection includes 11 high resolution images that you can use in your print or web work….

Use Adobe Bridge CS5 for Posting Photos to Facebook, Flickr and Photoshop.com

Once again, Adobe Bridge slips a little known feature into the application which saves me time! As of version 4.0.2, Adobe Bridge CS5 includes Export modules for directly posting photos to Facebook, Flickr and Photoshop.com. The Export modules will even handle a number of formatting and metadata transformations from configurable presets. Compared to my old workflow of creating images then uploading them in separate steps, this feature has saved me significant time and hard drive space. This article will give you a brief overview of the upload process….

Meeting recap – March 2011

Michelle introduced the topic of motivation for photographers, and we had a good discussion about choosing projects and keeping notes. Of special interest was the review on Harold Davis’ ‘Photoshop Darkroom 2′. The types of images Harold includes sparked quite a bit of talk about how our group can start shooting for particular effects, and what to plan for when shooting.

We also talked about online education, including our new sponsor, Webucator, who has offered up some free classes for our members.

Next month, we thought it would be good to revisit the idea of planning a series based on telling a story over time, conveying a message, or showing the same idea from several different perspectives. We also plan on looking at some 3rd-party tools to supplement the Photoshop work flow, ranging from effects plug-ins to external and round-trip applications for additional processing.

The Photoshop Darkroom 2 (Focal Press)

I’ve posted a review of The Photoshop Darkroom 2: Creative Digital Transformations on Amazon, but I wanted to give a shorter summary here. I’ll start by saying I love the images in The Photoshop Darkroom 2. There is a lot of excellent shooting, editing, and compositing going on. There are also great little blurbs on [...]

CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 20: Dance of the Comedians

Nature photography is by far my favorite type of photography. Whether you’re an animal lover or not, you can’t help but see how entertaining and comical these unpretentious, uninhibited animals can be. Some of the following animal pranksters were shot in the wild, some at the Palm Beach Zoo, and others while I was just out for a stroll around town.

This collection includes ten high resolution images that can be used in everything from print pieces to web pages….
